History
Lingenio GmbH was founded in 1999 by the Research & Development Group for its project “Logic Based Machine Translation” at the Heidelberg Scientific Centre of IBM Germany. The technology gained from this project pioneered a new direction on the sector and even today is still regarded as a technology standard for the development of machine translation systems. The Group developed the translation software Personal Translator based on this technology and published several versions of this system together with Linguatec Sprachtechnologien GmbH until 2004. Since 2004, Linguatec Sprachtechnologien GmbH has continued to refine and publish this software.
In 2004 the company reorganised. linguatec Entwicklung & Services became Lingenio GmbH, and work commenced on developing the successor, translate. From 2005, side by side with the translation systems, the innovative software suite office wörterbuch was developed and published, and received the coveted doIT Software Research Award from the State of Baden-Württemberg on several occasions.
The latest version 12 of translate secured a top ten place at the 2010 industrial award competition held by Initiative Mittelstand.
